You can use a poke'mon with cut (hm01) to cut down bushes (go figure) & the grass that poke'mon attack you in.      

            The key to cinnabar island's gym is in the bottom of that big house whith poke'mon in it. (you can also catch ditto there in the yellow version of the game)                  

             Some poke'mon only evolve when there traded or when you use a stone on it. (but raise your poke'mon before using a stone because when you evolve them that way they can't learn as many attacks)

             In the yellow version you can catch level 15 gyrados (using a super rod) behind that house in fuchsia city were you get the good rod.

       NIDORINO - MOON STONE
       PIKACHU - THUNDER STONE
       WEEPINBELL - GRASS STONE

       EEVE - FIRE STONE,WATER STONE,& THUNDER STONE
       CLEFARY - MOON STONE
       JIGGULYPUFF - MOON STONE
       EXECUTE - GRASS STONE (yeah, I know I spelled that wrong)

     S.S.ANNE 4 EVER(& still get HM01) this is easy to do, after you get HM01 lose to anyone on the ship you'll warp back to the last pokemon center you were at & half your money will be gone as always,but the S.S.ANNE will still be there!(I wonder what happens when you use surf.....)

      oh,yeah,here are the pokemon that only evolve when traded:
      MACHOKE-MACHAMP
      KADABRA-ALAKAZAM
      HAUNTER-GENGAR
      GRAVELER-GOLEM
